  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

  • 8 large eggs (or egg substitute for egg-free version)

  • 2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based)

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup, plus more for serving

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Steps

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Step 2

Spread the bread cubes evenly in the dish and scatter the sliced strawberries over the top.

Step 3

In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.

Step 4

Pour the egg mixture over the bread and strawberries, making sure all the bread is soaked.

Step 5

Drizzle melted butter over the top and let sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the liquid.

Step 6

Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden and the center is set.

Step 7

Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with additional maple syrup before serving.

Make it your own!

  • Add a crunchy topping by mixing together 1/2 cup of chopped pecans with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and sprinkling it over the casserole before baking.

  • Mix in a half cup of cream cheese cubes with the bread for a creamy twist.

  • For a burst of citrus, add the zest of one orange to the egg mixture.
