4 bone-in pork chops

1 teaspoon salt

2 apples, cored and thinly sliced (use a sweet variety like Honeycrisp or Gala)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon fresh sage leaves
